PURPOSE OF THE MEETING: The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will host the second TMDL Advisory Group (TAG) meeting for the Roanoke River, Tinker Creek, and Wolf Creek TMDL on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. The TAG members are assisting DEQ with development of a cleanup study, also known as Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL), to address benthic impairments of the Roanoke River, Tinker Creek, and Wolf Creek within Botetourt County, the City of Roanoke, and Roanoke County, which have been listed on Virginia’s § 303(d) list of impaired waters for failing to meet Virginia’s water quality standards due to an altered benthic community. The TAG meeting is open to the public and any member of the public may attend and observe the proceedings. TMDLs to be developed will likely address nutrient and sediment, respective to the streams which these were identified as probable contributors to the poor health of the stream segment. The meeting will discuss updates from the previous meeting, data collected, and preliminary data results from the previous season. Information about this study can be found here: https://www.deq.virginia.gov/our-programs/water/water-quality/tmdl-development/tmdls-under-development. In the event of inclement weather, the meeting will be held on February 18, 2026, at the same time and location stated above.
